USB Pan Tilt Controller Installation Advice

There have been two versions of the PanTilt Controller, requiring different drivers:

PanTilt without relays or LANC, prior to 2017 Uses an FTDI chip which requires a driver
PanTilt without relays or LANC, 2017 onwards Does not need a driver (it is a HID device)
PanTilt with relays or LANC Does not need a driver (it is a HID device)

The following only applies to the version using an FTDIchip:

With the newer verisons of Windows such as Vista, Windows 7 and possibly XP, explicit driver installation is not necessary. As long as your computer has an internet connection, Windows will go online and find the correct driver automatically. The driver is also included with the CD and Website installations, see below.

If you do have problems with the drivers, you can go to www.ftdichip.com and download the latest driver from there. I like the CDM_Setup executable driver packages that can be downloaded and then run locally to install the drivers. At the time of writing www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM20600.exe links to the current verison of this file. If you want to remove previously installed drivers, thre is a tool available to assist with this at FTDI's utilities page: www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities.htm. This is the CDM Uninstaller utility.

You can also click on the spanner icon on the PanTilt Controller application and then click the "Install Drivers" button. This runs a copy of CDM_Setup which was installed when the PanTilt Controller software was installed.

If you want to install a newer version of the software (which comes with the driver package) then you may need to uninstall the existing version first. You will need to go into the Windows Control Panel, select "Uninstall programs" and find "PanTilt" in the list of programs.  Click on "Remove/Repair" and select "Remove this program from my computer".
